All Day Rehearsal 17th December

On this day, we did a full run of the show. We started off in the theatre to run scene 1, because I am not involved in scene 1, I was put in charge of operating the smoke machine. This meant that towards the end of scene 1, I had to start the smoke mating behind the curtains at the back of the theatre, and then take it outside along the path so that it was all smokey outside. The problem with this is that because of the wind, the smoke didn’t really hang around and blew away quite quickly. So I decided that during the performance, I would put the most smoke behind the curtain so that it was more likely to stay. I also had to make sure that the seating was dry outside and the CD player was running so there was music playing when the audience was coming out, it was a bit rushed but I made it offstage before most of the audience came out.

I was pretty happy with the run of scene 2, and it was the first real opportunity to use the bed for Granny Wolf. Having to climb through the bushes was quite a challenge because there really wasn’t much room and making sure I came on at a time that it didn’t distract from what was going on onstage. I also found that as the prince, I needed to pin the sash to myself because it kept on falling down and I couldn’t be doing with that during the actual performance as I would have keep picking it up.

This run was really helpful for making sure that all the entrances and exits when smoothly and working out how I would get to the different entrances from the exits, it was especially hard to get from being the wolf into the prince because there wasn’t much time between them and I had to get right across the back of the audience and get changed.

It was also good to be able to switch between the scenes seamlessly without stopping like we often did in lessons and instead getting all the feedback at the end. It was also useful to be able to incorporate all the dance sequences into the performance whilst in costume and in the space we were actually going to do them instead on in the dance studio or theatre.
