In this lesson we started off by singing some warms up, we did some scales and singing the intervals of a scale one group at a time, this meant that we had to use intonation to make sure we were hitting the right note.
Then we got told about the showcase in february and that we would have to choose a song from Cats, Hairspray, Les Miserables or Joseph. It would either have to be a solo or duet depending on what we still had to sing in the unit. Because I had done all that is needed already, it gave e a chance to improve on one of the performances I had already done. After researching male solo songs from Les Miserables and Joseph I had to decide on which one I wanted to do. I spoke to Kim about what she would suggest for my voice and she said I should do either ‘Close every door’ from Joseph, or ‘Stars’ from Les Miserables. After looking at the two during the rest of the lesson and in my own time outside of the lesson I decided that I would do ‘Close ever door’ I chose this because I felt that it suited my voice better and it gave me more of an opportunity to improve on what I had done in my previous solo performance. I have been looking at the song since and am in the process of leaning the lyrics and the music. I am finding it quite hard to pitch the note at the beginning because it starts acapella. But I think if I keep listening to it I will eventually get it. I will ask Kim for some extra help outside of the lessons so that this performance is really good and will be better than my last solo.
