Given Circumstances is a technique that was established by theatre practitioner Konstantin Stanislavski. Given Circumstances are applied to a character and are the environmental and situational conditions. these choices are made by the actor meaning they are aware of them although the character would be aware but would not have consciously chosen them.
In our lesson we used Given circumstances to give a bit of background to our character and how the would be felling during the scene. For example I said that there was traffic on the way so Vince would be feeling a little bit stressed when he arrives which would change the way that the lines would be delivered.
"Dissociative disorders (DD) are conditions that involve disruptions or breakdowns of memory, awareness, identity or perception" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dissociative_disorder
This refers to Lisa because it says that there is a breakdown of memory which would explain that she does not remember the flight or how she has lost her hour. It also messes with her awareness because she does not know that shes in Dissocia or what Dissocia really is. Her perception of things is also affected. So the characters from the second act are perceived as vivid and surreal versions of themselves and these are the characters from the first act.
'Why does Lisa imagine me like this'
The characters in the second act can be seen as being linked to the characters in the first act. I think that my character, Vince, is linked to Passenger 2 and the Goat. Passenger 2 talks about violence and pushing somebody down the stairs which could be Lisa thinking about a time that she was abused. He also says 'I'm breaking up' which could be Lisa subconsciously thinking that Vince will break up with her.
The Goat tries to sexually abuse Lisa. The Goat could be Lisa's imagination of this scenario in a whole person. The Goat also wants to be blamed for everything. It's like he wants Lisa to be angry at him. This might be because Vince tried to apologise to Lisa for what had happened but Lisa could have said it was all her fault because of her illness where really it was Vince's fault.
